ALLEN – Richard D. Sr., 85, of Cliffside Park, NJ, on Friday, February 26, 2016. Predeceased by his parents Mary and Frank Allen. Beloved husband of 64 years to Margaret “Wuzzy” (nee Scala) Allen. Loving father of Richard Allen Jr., his wife Jean, Bobby Allen Sr, his wife Christine, and Frank P. Allen. Cherished grandfather of Robert Jr., Matthew, Richard III, Christopher, Billy, Elizabeth, and Frank Jr. Caring great-grandfather of Daniel, Caleb, Michael, Elijah, Richard IV, Kayla, Billy, Nathan, and Olivia. Dear brother of Judith Matteis Acquaire. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Richard was known for decades around his native Cliffside Park as an ever smiling Korean War Veteran, who received the Purple Heart for his services to our country. He spent 4 years with the USMC rising to the rank of Sergeant. Most notably, he was a member of the Brotherhood of the Frozen Chosen, which was a 17 day battle that began in November 1950 during North Korea’s coldest winter in a century. Against 120,000 Chinese soldiers, some 30,000 US troops broke out inflicting severe losses on their foes. Upon his return, Richard worked for Lever Brothers in Edgewater for 35 years. Among his other achievements, Richard was a former Commander and treasurer of the American Legion Post 126, in Cliffside Park, a volunteer at the VA hospital in Paramus, a Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart in North Bergen, former president of the CP Board of Ed, a Cub Scout leader and Notary Public. Known for his trademark whistle when calling his children home for dinner, Richard always kept a watchful eye on the kids in the neighborhood which embodies what every parent should be. Funeral from McCorry Brothers, 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park, NJ, on Wed. March 2, 2016 at 9:00 am. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 9034 Barr Place, North Bergen, NJ, at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. Visiting hours on Tuesday March 1, 2016, from 4-9 pm.
