Obituary of Frances Svrcek
Frances Bambace Svrcek was born on September 29, 1938, in Cannitello, Villa San Giovanni, province of Reggio Calabria, Italy. She immigrated to the United States in 1947 accompanied by her mother Maria and sisters Giovanna and Mary. On her arrival in the port of New York, she met her father Andrea for the first time. The family had been separated for 10 years as a result of the war. Frances became a secretary and later retired as a Vice President at Equitable Life Insurance Company in New York City. On September 20, 1969, she married her soulmate the blond, blue eyed Steve Svrcek, the Czech with the amazing laugh and a joie de vivre that lit up a room, he passed away in 1995 and Frances continued running his auto shop in Guttenberg, NJ. Frances was a legendary gardener with an astounding green thumb— no one left her home without a tomato or zucchini. She had a generous and kind heart and all who met her could not help but love her.
She is survived by her brother Rocco Bambace, devoted nieces Lee, Mary and Francesca, who lovingly called her Zizi, her loving godson Carmelo Bambace, and treasured cousins Pam and Dave Anderson and their family. May she rest in peace — surrounded by her parents, her husband, her sisters and her beloved brother-in-law Tony, all who have waited so patiently for her to join them.
Friends and family are to gather at Madonna Church (in the cemetery) 2070 Hoefleys Lane, Fort Lee, NJ, for celebration of her Funeral Mass on Monday February 3, 2025, at 12 PM. Entombment to follow in Madonna Mausoleum at 1 PM. Please, in lieu of flowers donations to either: St. Jude Children's Fund or US Department of Veteran Affairs would be appreciated; links are on left of page.
“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies”, my grandfather said, “a child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built, or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way, so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you're there.”
