Obituary of Geraldine Laconti
Geraldine Laconti, a devoted mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at Emerson Rehabilitation Center in Emerson, NJ, at the age of 91. Born in Cliffside Park, NJ, on March 28, 1933, to Frank and Loretta (Taylor) Mensorio, Geraldine shared deep bonds with her sisters, Lucille Pluchino, Loretta “Dumpsy” Mensorio, and Genevieve Menzella. Their close relationship was filled with shared time at each other's homes, lengthy phone calls, and memorable Caribbean adventures. She was also a loving presence in the lives of her nieces and nephews, Mark, Maria (Mark’s wife), Kris, and Jennifer, offering constant support and sharing vacations.
A self-taught scholar and avid reader, Geraldine devoured books, often guided by the New York Times bestseller list. A true pioneer for independent women, she thrived in the workforce of the 1950s and 60s and embraced single motherhood in the 70s and 80s. Rising at 5 a.m., she commuted to NYC for a full-time job, returning home to cook and raise her son, Michael Laconti, while actively participating in his life and education. Her love for Michael and her cherished grandson, Spencer Laconti, was immeasurable, and she was a constant presence at Michael’s school events and a dedicated helper with homework and projects.
A passionate advocate for animal rights, Geraldine marched for various causes, particularly against fur and animal mistreatment. Over the years, she shared her life with many beloved pets, including her last cat, Patience, who now joins Angela and Michael's family of animals. After retiring, Geraldine moved to Corning, NY, where she enjoyed participating in the Red Hat Society's luncheons and events.
