Obituary of Marie J McCormack
Marie J. McCormack, 84, of Fairview passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 13, 2025, following a long illness that she faced with grace and trust in the Lord.
Marie was born on October 12, 1940, in Bayonne, NJ to the late Helen (Rooney) and James P. Tomney. She graduated from St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City, NJ and then attended nursing school at Jersey City Medical Center. She worked as a public health nurse after graduation and was later a nursing supervisor at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck before retiring. Nursing was a calling for Marie anchored by a desire to serve and care for those who were vulnerable or in need.
Marie met her husband, Thomas, at a CYO dance in Jersey City. They married several years later in August 1965. They had three children and Marie was always a certain, strong, and supportive presence in her children’s lives.
Always fully committed to her faith, Marie taught CCD classes as well as adult faith formation classes to help prepare individuals to join the Catholic Church. She also volunteered at St. John the Baptist Food Pantry in Fairview. Marie’s sense of faith and family continues to be a model for both her children and grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas, and her children Marie Judith of Bridgewater NJ, Thomas (Alyson) of Ridgewood NJ, and Eileen (Steve Costanzo) of Congers, NY, and her grandchildren Jill, Holly, Tommy, Caroline, Brayden, Faith and Kristen. Marie is now reunited with her granddaughter, Lauren, who predeceased her.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home (780 Anderson Ave. Cliffside Park, NJ 07010).
