RINALDI – Laura, G. (nee Scioli) The LADY and A LOVE STORY She was born on August 24, 1912 in a house in Cliffside Park, the daughter of Emidio and Angelina (DeCresenzo) Scioli, both immigrants from the Provincia de Abruzzi, Italy. Laura is the last surviving sister of five sisters, Frances Ranieri, Geraldine Barchetto, Collette Rossi, Betty Migliore; and her brothers Emil and Joe Vella. The love story began in 1930 when she met Tony (Anthony J. Rinaldi) of Hoboken, the son of immigrants from the Provincia de Salerno, Italy. They met “down the shore” in Long Branch. There were good times in Palisades Amusement Park, Cliffside Park, Hoboken and “in the country” in Northern New Jersey, usually involving simple activities with their families. Laura became part of Tony’s family and Tony became part of Laura’s family. Laura and Tony married on June 12, 1938 and soon started their family, having three children -Rita, Tony and John. Her life revolved around her children and her family, becoming Aunt Laura to 22 nieces and nephews. It was during these times she became known as “The Lady” to her children, nieces and nephews. Tragically her beloved husband Tony passed away on March 23, 1958. The love story however continued until the last days of her life when she would reach out and talk to her husband Tony. During the last 55 years of her life, the love story continued. She danced at the weddings of Rita to Vincent Luciani, her son Tony to Olga and her son John to Ruth. She was devoted to her grandchildren; Amy, J.R., Tony (III), Matthew, Andy and Portia and danced at their weddings. Later in her life she became a great grandmother of nine great grandchildren - Devon, Natalie, Antonio, AnnaMarie, Marco, Samantha, Georgia, Lilly and Vincent. Her love and devotion to family extended to all the children of her nieces and nephews to whom she shared her happiness. Laura only finished grammar school, never got a high school diploma or college degree, never had a power job, never wrote a book or ran a company. Laura was born in a simple house, never lived in a mansion and never became rich, but had more class and dignity than the richest. She also never forgot a birthday, an anniversary, nor a visit or helping hand to someone in need. She was a completely selfless lady. Her wealth and legacy is the happiness she brought to everyone. She passed on March 27, 2015 and her wish to everyone is “Be Happy”. Funeral from McCorry Brothers Funeral Home, 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park, NJ, on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at Church of The Epiphany, 247 Knox Avenue, Cliffside Park, NJ, at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ.
