Obituary of Arlene Louise Uss

Please share a memory of Arlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Arlene Louise Uss passed away on January 4th, 2022 at the age of 71. Born and raised in New York City, Arlene spent her time taking care of her family and pursuing her love of ballet at The Juilliard School. She went on to have many successful positions in the field of education, sharing her passion for early childhood development everywhere she could.

Arlene later moved to New Jersey to start a family of her own and adopted her daughter, Emily, from China in 1999. They traveled the world together, learning about different cultures and discovering new favorite places. Arlene was a beautiful spirit, the kind to put everyone else first. She was always socializing and met many wonderful people over the course of her life. A majority of her career was spent working at Bank Street College of Education where she was the director of a Child Development Associate program. She also educated mothers who were incarcerated with their babies at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility and helped many daycare centers improve their programs and spaces.

In 2016 Arlene was diagnosed with dementia and she fought for 6 long years. She will be remembered as a loving and hard working mother, a loyal friend, and a most ambitious woman. We are so thankful to have been part of her life and we will carry her with us forever. The family has chosen the Alzheimer's Association if you would like to make a donation in Arlene’s honor. They are a non-profit organization that research treatments and provide support for people with Alheimers and other types of dementia.
