I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and teacher, Nina Lelchuk. She was a great influence with me as a pianist and a wonderful friend. We had many heartfelt moments over the years. May God bless over your soul. Until we meet again!

Throughout those years in my master's degree with Miss Lelchuk, I was having complex feelings for her. The lessons were very intense and I always cried after the class. But she was a teacher who encouraged me to be confident and kept telling me how capable I was. I finally overcame my stage fight and played everything by heart. Having a teacher like Miss Lelchuk was a gift and I will always remember her in my life and educate my little students all I have learned from her. Rest in peace.

My condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and her many students. I never knew professor Lelchuk personally but I got to know a few of her wonderful students. You learn much about a teacher and how generous, rigorous and compassionate they are from their students. And the quality of pianism she taught and discipline inculcated was impressive.
Her family and colleagues should know that her life's work is recognized beyond the piano community, such as composers as myself who studied at Queens College a few years ago and earlier who delighted in the fruits of her labor from the recitals of her piano students. She was like a might oak whose legacy will continue for quite some time.

Nina Lelchuk was truly unique in the history of the piano. She was one of the finest artists to come out of the Former Soviet Union representing the finest tradition of the art of music. She was beloved by her students and her audience. Not only will she be missed as a teacher and performer, she will also be irreplaceable.

Here is a photo from 2019 of Nina and her former pupil and dear friend Alexander Vaulin. It was thanks to him that I met her decades ago and was reunited with her in the last few years. I deeply cherish the memories I have of her...her taking me to her favorite Russian restaurant in NJ for my birthday, a trip we took to Wave Hill, and just a meal at her place. A larger-than-life personality I will miss.

Nina was the most extrordinary human being I ever met. She gave to my son Yarik a solid technic and a world class piano fundaments at an early age. But not only that, but her deep love and wise advice. Nina, we stay with broken hearts, but we understand this is not an Adiós, this is just a Hasta luego.

My sister Brucha introduced me to Nina at the amazing 80th birthday party that Dmitry invited me to 5 years ago. He was such a good son and that evening was very special and memorable.
