Obituary of Anna B Ocello

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anna Ocello (nee Iacovelli), 93, of Cliffside Park, NJ, passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 16th, 2022.

Ann was born in Hoboken, New Jersey on April 29th, 1928, to Giovanni and Libra Iacovelli. She married Joseph Thomas Ocello and had two sons, Carmine and John Ocello. She went on to work for many, many years as a seamstress in a local coat factory before enjoying a long retirement, where she socialized very little.

She was known by many names: Auntie Ann, Annie Baby, Gram, Gigi, but she mostly went by Ann. Ann loved trashy television, diner coffee, cutting holes in her shoes, cooking exorbitant Sunday dinners, and most of all her family. Her two defining characteristics were her loving kindness and her stubborn attitude. She proved incredibly tough to kill, overcoming multiple bouts of cancer and cardiac events, and often bragged near the end that she possessed very few of her original parts.

She was preceded in death by: her parents Giovanni and Libra; her sisters Ann Marie, Francis, and Rose; her husband-in-absentia Joe; her son Carmine; niece Marie Monaco; and great-nephew Anthony.

She will be remembered fondly by: her son John and his ex-wife Nanci; nephew Joseph Monaco and wife Carolyn; great-nieces & nephews Debbie, Karen, Maria, Arlene, Danielle. and Jesse; her four grandchildren and their spouses - Joseph Ocello and wife Joanna, Jason Ocello, Tara Ocello and husband Michael Flaccavento, and Ryan Ocello and wife Patricia Corke-Ocello; and her seven great-grandchildren Thomas, Trinity, Kai, Nilya Rose, Gia, Atreyu, and Battle.

In light of Ann’s wishes and the current pandemic, services are not being held at this time. Arrangements for a celebration of her life in direct contradiction to her stated wishes will follow in the future, as well as some dividing of her ashes. In lieu of donations just tell people to call their grandparents on the phone more often (but keep it brief).
