Obituary of David McCartney

David P. McCartney, 80, of Fairview, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 14, 2023.  Born on August 3, 1942 in Cliffside Park, he is predeceased by his beloved mother, Mary (Marie). He is survived by his loving family and friends, including his treasured cousins Douglas and Jeffrey McCartney (Robert) and Emily McCartney-Leap.

David spent his entire career at Lever Brothers (Unilever) in Edgewater, NJ, where he was a devoted employee and was honored as “Employee of the Year.” A lifelong parishioner at St. John the Baptist Church, David was steadfast in his devotion to his faith and provided outstanding service to the parish. David attended St. John’s elementary school and is a graduate of Boy’s Town High School in Nebraska.

Local residents will remember David for his daily long walks throughout Fairview and for his cheerful disposition and engaging personality. He will be missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 23 at 3:00 pm, preceded by visitation and recitation of the Rosary at 2:30 pm, at St. John the Baptist Church in Fairview. Burial at Madonna Cemetery will be private.

The family requests that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s memory to “Father Flanagan’s Boy’s Home” (14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010) or to “The Franciscan Community Development Center” (Franciscan Sisters) 239 Anderson Avenue, Fairview, NJ 07022.
