Obituary of Adeline Emma Alessi
*****Emergency Venue Change***
Due to unforseen circumstances the Visitation for Adeline has been moved to Frank A. Patti Funeral Home, 327 Main Street, Fort Lee, NJ. 201-944-0100. We apologize for any inconvience.
Adeline Alessi passed away on May 27, 2023, 30 days before her 100th birthday. She was born in Hoboken, and married Ben Alessi, who passed away in May 2000, for nearly 49 years. They had two children, Barbara Carfagno (married to Jerry Carfagno) and Michele. Barbara took excellent care of her through the years, especially since 2014 when she had to go into a nursing home at the age of 91 following a fall in her apartment. Adeline had 4 grandchildren, Jerry Carfagno (and his long-time girlfriend, Joleen), Stephanie Carfagno Hollowell (married to Chuck), and Jeffrey and Christina. She also had an adorable great-granddaughter named Freya Hollowell, who is 7 years old, whom she adored seeing regularly until Covid hit, and missed her terribly, but she did get to see many photos of Freya when Barbara visited. She was finally able to see Freya, Stephanie, Chuck, Jerry, and Joleen in June 2022 after 18 months for a small gathering outside the nursing home to celebrate her 99th Birthday! She also is survived by many nieces and nephews around the U.S. who loved her dearly.
Adeline’s mother was Alvina Young Luers, her father was John Luers, her brother, Walter Luers, and her sister, Alvina Potocki, who predeceased her; she was very close to all of them, and also to her wonderful father-in-law, Ben Alessi, Sr., of Hoboken, who passed away at the age of 103, in September 1984, and her mother-in-law Filippa, who passed away in 1964.
Barbara and her husband, Jerry, spent a lot of time searching for a good nursing home and found one at Daughters of Miriam in Clifton, NJ, where Adeline was well taken care of for nearly 8 years. She missed her apartment, her friends, walking to neighborhood stores and to the bank, to BINGO in the senior citizens building where she resided and down the street from her apartment almost every day for many years but could no longer live alone. She had enjoyed cooking, especially Italian food, and was a good cook, never really adjusting to the nursing home food, but they took good care of her. Barbara would like to say Thank You to the wonderful staff at Daughters of Miriam, which then became known as Atlas Daughters of Miriam in 2022.
Visitation will be onThursday June 1, from 10 AM to12 PM at Frank Patti Funeral Home 327 Main Street, Fort Lee, NJ. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church in Fairview, NJ, on Friday June 2 at 9:30 AM. She will be laid to rest at the Fairview Mausoleum in Fairview, NJ, with her parents.
