Obituary of Marina Binas

     Marina Binas (née Yannaris) died peacefully on June 5, 2023.

 

     Marina was born in Athens, Greece on August 9, 1935 to Kyriakos and Evanthia (née) Yannaris. Marina attended the Ste. Joseph Lycee and upon graduating and obfuscating her birthday, she began her career in the Foreign Ministry of Greece underage. Her early years were centered in Athens, eventually serving as Private Secretary to Greece’s Foreign Minister V. Averoff. She transferred to the General Consulate of Greece in New York City in 1962. Through the breadth of her long tenure with the Foreign Service, she devoted herself unfailing to the of service Greece, its governments, its citizens and its diaspora. She was decorated not only by her Ministry, but from other those of other nations including Denmark, Lebanon, Spain and Yugoslavia.


     Marina married her husband George in 1964 in New York City. Together they raised two children, Constantine and Peter, in their adopted City.

Marina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend to many.

 

     On a personal level, she loved travel; adoring places with secluded pebble beaches, or antithetically, anyplace known for its haute cuisine or couture.  She was, alternately, a reliable confidant in a crisis and a willing accomplice for an evening out.  She cherished her children above all and was fiercely devoted to their education and well-being.

 

     She is survived by her husband, her sons, their wives, Janine and Carrie, and her beloved granddaughter, Katie, and her cousins Evangelia and Argiro Naom.

 

     She is also survived by Yollie Rosales, an integral and longstanding member of the Binas family.  Her love, devoted concern, and compassion allowed Marina to live her final years with dignity and comfort.

 

     Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 7th, 5-7 p.m., at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home, 780 Anderson Ave., Cliffside Park, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Marina's memory be made to the charity, organization, or cause dearest to each individual’s heart.
