Anytime we went upstate from the time I was about 3-4 years old until 5 months ago I would see you, talk to you, or even bring you some random items that you were in need of. Whether it was skiing literally every weekend during my childhood, or going to my land with my dad during summer as our land adjoined each others. My dad James Cooke chose you as my godfather for starters because you guys were great friends and met at a ski house up near Hunter way before I was even in the picture. The other reasons are obvious he wanted me to learn from you because of how smart you were, and ski with you so I too would become a great skier. I miss you always busting my chops about my skiing posture lol. I’ll miss the long talks we had once I was older and would come upstate on my own. We spoke about business and the stock market, and so much more. I remember this one time when I was still very young the 3 of us were over on my land and one of you guys shook up a can of beer and we all took turns shooting at it. We were using one of your rifles and no one could hit this dam can but then on like my 4th attempt I was the one who actually made it explode. I remember that so well. Partially because I was so young and I was the one to get it I guess. You taught me several tricks to life which I will never forget. You did things in a very purposeful way unlike anyone else I’ve ever known. The way you went about things whether fixing something or building was always fully worked out and thought through before we even started. You taught me patience and to be precise. I can’t even fully explain you and the way you were. Only people that had the honor of really knowing you can relate to what I am stating. I missed many years after my dad got sick but once I could drive upstate I knew you were always there. Even if I was camping with friends you’d come by and hang out for a few (my lucky friends got to meet you). Going upstate is a very special place for me and it just won’t be the same knowing you aren’t right through the woods or just down that dirt road. May you rest in peace.
