Obituary of Sophia V Simeone

Sophia “Sophie” Vera Simeone, 89, of Cliffside Park, NJ, passed away on Tuesday January 14, 2025. She was born on Monday July 8, 1935, in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of the late Sophie Van Pelt (nee Holzlein). A retired secretary in the Cliffside Park School system for 30+ years, Sophie was adored by her friends, family and the multitudes of students she called her kids.

Sophie enjoyed being active.  Through the years, she filled her spare time by participating in softball and bowling leagues.  As her children became involved in sports, Sophie volunteered as a Little League “Mom” and worked at the concession stand with the other parents.  Ever the gregarious individual, Sophie remained involved in volunteerism and social clubs for the remainder of her life.

Sophie was the wife of the late Carmen Simeone, the love of her life. Cherished mother of Gail Agosta (Thomas) and Ronald Simeone (Mary Jo Mulé). Dedicated grandmother of Brooke, Lauren (Justin McMickle), Andrew, Sarah (Casey McMickle), Nicole, Thomas, and Alex. Loving great-grandmother of Callum and Everett. Cherished older sister of the late George Van Pelt.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 17^th from 2 to 6PM at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home located at 780 Anderson Ave, Cliffside Park, NJ. There will be a brief celebration of life at 4 PM the same day (Friday) at the Funeral home. Family and friends are welcome to gather at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ for internment beginning at 11:45AM. In lieu of flowers donations in Sophie’s name to: Holy Name Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (links on the left of page) would be appreciated.
