SCARNECCHIA-Vincent, 96, of Fairview, NJ, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015. At the age of 12 he began working coal for a "penny a bag" during the depression to help his family make ends meet. He longed to own a new bicycle. Times were hard so he began to assemble scrap bicycle parts in order to create his dream bike. Thus began his fascination with machinery and all things mechanical. He was later dubbed the "Mechanical Wizzard". He used this talent to restore Indian and Harley Davidson Motorcycles in the 1930's. Vincent met the love of his life Anna Apice before the war. When the war began he was devastated over the thought of leaving her, however, Uncle Sam called and away he went. During the war on the Island of Guam, as a soldier in the Mechanics Division, he devised a means of refrigeration and for his ingenuity he was awarded a commendation for which he was always proud. When he returned home he married Anna and had two daughters. If words could best describe him they would include determination and endless energy. He worked in the mechanical field on trucks and later on automobile restoration in the late 1950's. During this time he began a trucking company "Scarne Trucking". Life with Vincent, for his daughters, was always an adventure as he took them in his red Ford pickup to salvage various items such as stained glass windows from the ruins of buildings. He was always on the quest for the unknown. He often worked late into the night, coming home exhausted, however, he always had time for a snuggle and his famous bedtime stories, "Whitey the Horse", the story that never ended. After the passing of his beloved wife, he found comfort in raising his two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Anna. Throughout their lives he showered them with love. Just as the story of "Whitey the Horse" never ended, the story of our love for him will never end. In everything we do he will always be a great part of our lives. Vincent was the beloved husband of the late Anna (nee Apice) Scarnecchia (1984). Loving father of Linda Scarnecchia, her companion Charles Hittel, and Lucia Ward, her husband Wayne. Cherished grandfather of Jeffrey and Anna Ward. Brother of Raymond Scarnecchia, his wife Natalie. Caring uncle of Salvatore Apice, his wife Cecila. Vincent was a proud World War II Army Veteran.
