Frank D. Ferrara: A Rich and Wonderful Life
1922 - 2016
Frank D. Ferrara (of Cliffside Park, NJ), beloved husband of Margaret (nee Perna) Ferrara, passed away peacefully on July 28th after succumbing to lung cancer; he was just shy of his 94th birthday. The only son of Vincenzo and Mary (nee Indiveri) Ferrara, and brother to Johanna (deceased), Frank was born in Staten Island and grew up with his family in the Bronx. In 1955, he married Margaret, the one true love of his life. Their deep bond sustained and enriched their lives for the next 61 years. They shared a love of art, opera, literature and travel. Together they journeyed through many parts of the United States and all over the world, meeting fellow travelers, some of whom would become life-long friends. Not blessed with children of their own, Frank and Marge especially cherished all their nieces and nephews.
Frank served his country as a Corporal in the Army during World War II. His love of airplanes, reinforced by his wartime responsibilities in the Air Maintenance Division, influenced his decision to accept a job with Lockheed Martin. His employment there offered him the opportunity to travel many times to Singapore, an aspect of his work that he relished. In later years, Frank enjoyed a successful second career as a salesman for Bloomingdale’s in the furniture department; as one of the company’s top sales associates, he was honored with the "Mr. Bloomingdale's" national sales award three times.
An avid coin and stamp collector, and a die-hard Mets fan who enjoyed fishing and Pink Panther comedies, Frank loved oysters-on-the-half-shell and could whip up a bowl of the most scrumptious pasta with clam sauce! He was a man who lived his life to the fullest, delighting in each new adventure, facing every challenge with courage and grace. Our Uncle Frank was a kind-hearted and gentle man of faith, devoted to his wife and family, who love him dearly and will miss him every day.
He is survived by his wife Marge, sister-in-law Rose Perna Lizza, 11 nieces and nephews and their spouses, and 15 grand nieces and nephews and their spouses.
