Obituary - Rose Zenian Cravotta
(March 4, 1932- November 21, 2016)
Rose Zenian Cravotta (Nee Vartouhi Buskazenian) of Englewood Cliffs, NJ passed away suddenly on November 21, 2016 at the age of 84. Born in Aleppo Syria, Rose and her family immigrated to the United States when she was six years old. She attended school in West New York, NJ and studied at The Actor's Studio with the legendary Lee Strasberg. Known professionally as Ann Lombard, she appeared in many films including Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" and John Cassavetes's "Shadows". Rose and her beloved husband, the late Joseph Cravotta Jr., were the proprietors of The Cloud Room Dinner Theater, Joe's Elbow Room, and Joseph's on the Palisades located in Cliffside Park, NJ. Rose was a long time member of St. Thomas Armenian Apostolic Church where she sang weekly in the choir. She was inducted into the Daughters of Vartan. Rose was extremely proud of her Armenian heritage and frequently assisted Armenians in need including serving as a translator for earthquake victims requiring medical attention. Passionately dedicated to the Woman's Club of Englewood, she was a member of the board and served as president from 2014-2016. She was also a board member of the senior citizen organization SESCIL and a judge of local elections for the borough of Englewood Cliffs. Rose loved music, singing, theater, film, and the fine arts. She volunteered and performed with the Verismo Opera of Englewood. An avid traveler, she was well known for her outgoing personality and optimistic outlook. In addition to her husband, Rose was pre-deceased by her parents Levon and Mary Zenian and her brother John Zenian. She is survived by her daughters Leonora Mary Cravotta, Josephine Gia Hinman, her son Joseph S. Cravotta III, her son-in law Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Richard C. Hinman, and her grandchildren 1st Lieutenant Richard C. Hinman Jr. and Rose Isabella Hinman.
Funeral from McCorry Brothers Funeral Home, 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park, NJ, on Monday, November 28, 2016, at 10:15 AM.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday November 27 from 4 to 8 pm at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday November 28 at St. Thomas Armenian Apostolic Church on E. Clinton Avenue in Tenafly, NJ followed by a visit to the Fairview Mausoleum at 501 Bergenwood Road, Fairview, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable Organization (ACCO) http://www.aleppo-ngo.org/ which aids Armenians in the city of Rose's birth.
