Eileen and I were close friends and neighbors ever since she moved rite across from my condo in Panther Valley.
For nearly two decades we saw each other, sat in her living room and talked, went to lunch (Hampton Diner was a fav), went shopping, helped each other, especially with our cats.
I have a funny memory of Eileen helping me hang a big picture over my fireplace. We kept laughing and almost
falling off the step stool. She always said we were like Lucy and Ethel--but we both were redheads, so I don't
know who was who!
When I applied for a new job and career at Greystone after working in the science field, Eileen encouraged me.
She said, "You'll be good at it." I always trusted her opinions - she had good judgment.
She didn't give herself enuff credit for her amazing accomplishments. She was a mother and wife first for most of her life. She had had aspirations of becoming an actress, she and her friends (Anita was one), but getting married and having babies won out. Later to help out the family, she even went to business school to train for secretarial work (she did Speedwriting, not Greg Shorthand). And her typing skills were so good that no one wanted to sit next to her because she was so fast and made them look bad! She also had to learn how to use the computer (Word Perfect I think).
She spoke fondly of her time working at Lipton, which she could walk to from home. She was able to go home and make lunch for son Tim she told me.
Eileen's last job was at Seiko. That was quite a drive in rush hour traffic for a couple years when she first moved near me. But then she got a position at the Trade Zone location, much closer to home, but she really missed her old
location. But she stayed until things started changing and she retired.
Because she was home and I was still in the work force, Eileen would let my cat in during the day, give him a snack, and leave him to take a nap. We even were "co-owners" of a homeless kitten I had trapped and brought home.
I treasure the friendship I had with a truly remarkable woman--a real lady who deserved better than what she got in life.
With very fond memories, Lori Nagy (Oct 30, 2020).
