Obituary of Herbert Jerome Kratavil

Herbert Jerome Kratavil 102, of Fort Lee, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. 

Herbert was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years Leona nee Dosher.

Herbert is survived by his son Allan and daughter-in-law Bernadette Kratavil, his daughter Janet and son-in-law Charles Hathorn, and his care-giver of 10 years Kay. Also surviving are his grandchildren Linda and Scott Berkoben, Robin Hathorn and Thomas Barta, Laura and Russ Zito, Jon and Helen Hathorn, Bryan and his wife Melissa Hathorn. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren.

Herbert started selling newspapers when he was five years old, and out sold other kids in the neighborhood quickly. He later worked for a baking company that delivered their goods via horse and wagon. From there he started his own milk business called Chester Dairy. During World War II, Herbert took a second job unloading tractor trailors in service of his country. He worked until his retirement at age 80, and spent the ensuing years enjoying family time with all his loved ones.

Service at McCorry Brothers, 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park on Friday July 13, 2018, at 10 AM.  Burial to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.  Visiting hours on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
