Obituary of Norma S. Aduna-Yap

Norma S. Aduna-Yap, MD, FAAP, resident of Alpine New Jersey, passed away early Friday morning, January 3, 2020. She was born on August 26, 1934 to Alejandro Aduna and Victoria Sebastian-Aduna, Hagonoy, Bulacan, the Philippines.
The second youngest of six children, Norma’s older siblings include Clara, Patria, Pedro, and Alex. Norma married Dr. Agustin Yap, on July 21, 1962. Her husband passed away on December 4, 2014.
Norma is survived by 4 children (Arnold, Jocelyn, Giselle, and Theresa), 4 grandchildren (Isabelle, Sophie, Jake, Leo, and Matias) and younger brother Alex.
A graduate of the University of Santo Thomas College of Medicine, class of 1957, Norma completed her residency in pediatrics in the United States, where she achieved many honors in her field. She received her certificate as Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics, 1 January, 1963, was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Norma was an instructor of pediatrics in several institutions including Columbia Presbyterian Hospital/Harlem Hospital, NYU/Bellevue Hospital (NYC). At NYU/Bellevue she quickly progressed from instructor, to Assistant Professor. She also joined the Department of Pediatric Allergy, where she became the Director of Asthma Health Classes in the public schools of the Lower East Side of New York City.
In 1972, Norma together with her husband Agustin, started a private practice in Newark, New Jersey. She and her husband worked six days a week for over 40 years at Springfield Medical Center. Hers was a life of faith and service to the community. She looked on her successes as God’s blessings, and contributed to the church and numerous children’s charities. In trying times, especially as her health declined, Norma remained optimistic and unbowed as always.
Visitation will be held at McCorry Brothers, 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park, NJ, from 8:30 AM-10:30 AM. Entombment will follow at Madonna Mausoleum, 2070 Hoefleys Lane, Fort Lee, NJ.
