Bruce once told me our mothers met in the park while wheeling us in our carriages as babies. From my relocations he was always there. Be it a wave as he walked by or watching a baseball game together on a hot summer afternoon; we were friends for over 70 years.
We became closer friends when he transferred to the high school I attended. He became a part of the “Dairy Queen gang”: a group of us that would meet on summer nights at the Union City Dairy Queen and spin off into smaller groups to do something fun together like teenagers tended to do back then. Happy memories, I know he treasured and often recounted with me during our regular telephone calls that became our primary means of communications as the years made it difficult to get together socially.
I married and moved away in 1966. Bruce met his soul mate Christine about then and the four of us became life time friends. Chris is a very special lady he was blessed to have in his life.
Bruce had a good heart. He was a kind and caring guy; an angel in Archie Bunkers clothes who you could always count on when you needed him. I say that because Bruce was never one to hide his feelings. He was like Archie in many ways. It was the nature of his charm.
Rest in peace Bruce and thank you for being my friend.
