Obituary of John James Whelan

WHELAN - John James, 78, of Cliffside Park, NJ, on Sunday, July 12, 2015. Son of the late John and Betsy Whelan. Beloved husband of Dianne Reid Whelan. Loving father of John C. Whelan, his wife Johanna of Punta Gorda, FL, Amy Cocks of Florida, Kenneth J. Freeman, his wife Gayle of Greenwood Lake, NY, and Patrick M. Freeman of Middletown, NY. Cherished grandfather of Dakota Whelan of Punta Gorda, FL, Nicole Freeman of Bardonia, NY, and Rebecca Freeman Salsby, her husband Chris of New Windsor, NY. Dear great-grandfather of Anthony and Zoe Salsby. John was an Alumni of The City College of New York, NY. He was a proud US Army Veteran having served in Korea. John was a Professor at Bronx Community College for over 37 years in the Health and Physical Education Department, and he also served as Athletic Director for a number of years at BCC. Long time member of New York State Girls Basketball Officials Association Hudson Valley, New York State Public High School Athletic Association, The Brooklyn Board I.A.A.B.O., New York City Girls Basketball Association, and PSAL FOA. John was also a member of Highand Lakes Country Club and Communtiy Association since 1971. Visiting hours on Friday, July 17th, from 4-8 PM at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home, 780 Anderson Avenue, Cliffside Park, NJ. Service at McCorry Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11:30 AM. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of John J.
